Polunsky Unit Release Outcomes

Allan B. Polunsky Unit is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division prison. It is not a county jail. A move from Polunsky to another TDCJ unit is a transfer within state custody, not release. A person leaving on parole or mandatory supervision receives a release certificate and remains under TDCJ Parole Division authority. Parole is conditional release before the sentence ends. Mandatory supervision is a statutory form of supervised release. A flat discharge means the sentence has been completed, though another authority's hold can still prevent an immediate community exit.

Polk County's Released archive does not record a Polunsky departure simply because the prison is near Livingston. TDCJ owns the state record. The strongest post-exit evidence depends on the outcome: a release certificate for parole or mandatory supervision, a discharge record for sentence completion, or a location record when the person transferred.

Do not treat an expected date as the event itself. Programs, residence approval, detainers, disciplinary changes, Board action, and processing can alter the path. A favorable parole vote also is not proof that the gate release occurred.

Confirm a Polunsky Unit Release

Before release, search the TDCJ current-inmate database. The form accepts an exact last name with at least a first initial, a seven-digit TDCJ number, or a SID number. Gender and race can narrow a name search. Open the record and confirm the unit, offenses, and the field labeled Projected Release Date.

1. Save the TDCJ or SID number and exact name.
2. Confirm Allan B. Polunsky Unit as the current location.
3. Copy the Projected Release Date with its label.
4. After the expected exit, check TDCJ IVSS if parole or mandatory supervision is plausible.
5. Use the Board or Parole Division phone route for review and release status.
6. Request the release certificate or actual discharge record for documentary proof.

TDCJ says the public search includes only people currently incarcerated in its facilities. It updates on working days and is at least 24 hours old. It is therefore useful before release, not as a released-person archive. When a name disappears near the projected date, the timing is consistent with release but does not prove it. Transfer, lag, or another custody event remains possible.

A release certificate is the key document for parole or mandatory supervision. TDCJ says the rules are printed on the certificate and reviewed with the person at release. It can establish the actual supervised-release event and the conditions that follow. A Board vote serves a different role: it documents the decision, not the physical exit.

For a person who completed the sentence, ask for the actual discharge date and discharge record. TDCJ's free email information route can provide incarceration history and projected-release information, but it does not supply inmate photographs. A request for a public time calculation, release certificate, discharge record, or incarceration history should go to the office that maintains that state record.

A focused request should provide the full name, TDCJ number or SID, date of birth if known, unit, and an approximate date range. Ask for named records instead of asking staff to draw a legal conclusion.

The official Polunsky Unit directory identifies the facility and phone number. Unit staff can address facility operations, but formal release and discharge records belong to TDCJ's central records channels.

For basic inmate information, use the TDCJ email information route or the agency's telephone information channels. For existing public records, TDCJ provides public-information instructions and an online form. Time and release questions should be directed to Classification and Records because that office maintains the relevant calculations and documents.

A Polk County Sheriff's request will not produce a Polunsky state-prison release file. Send the request to TDCJ. Likewise, if another authority lodged a detainer, contact that authority to learn whether custody continued after TDCJ released its claim.

Polunsky Release Date Logistics

TDCJ publishes logistics that apply to state-prison releases. Routine processing generally occurs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, and dates may change. Family members planning pickup are advised to call before traveling. These are TDCJ practices, not rules for Polk County Jail or IAH.

The agency may provide a bus ticket to the station closest to the approved residence, or family may pick up the person at the releasing site. The release-status line can identify the pickup location after a date is set. Civilian clothing, trust-account return, and gate-money rules are also part of the TDCJ release process.

Release location may not be Polunsky itself. A person can be moved for processing or program needs. Confirm both the date and the site before making travel plans. If an approved residence or a detainer affects the case, the expected route can change.

A detainer is another authority's request to hold or receive the person. It can keep a planned TDCJ exit from becoming an immediate community release. Ask whether the pickup site is final and whether another custody agency is involved. When the answer points to a county, federal, or immigration authority, continue with that authority's locator or records office. This matters when the TDCJ record has disappeared, since the current-only search cannot explain the next custody event.
